How to Stop Pop-up Ads on a Samsung Phone
To stop pop-up ads on a Samsung phone, first identify whether the ad is a notification, a browser page or a window covering other apps. Long-press a notification to review its sender. If an ad covers the home screen or another app, investigate its window owner. Lock-screen content and website permissions need their own settings checks.
Which kind of Samsung ad are you seeing?
The steps below follow Samsung and Google support guidance. Menu names differ across Galaxy models and One UI releases. Use Settings search or your model's support instructions when a menu differs. A new full-screen ad does not, by itself, establish that the Samsung phone or the app beneath it is infected.
An ad appears in the notification shade or on the lock screen
Touch and hold the notification to see which app sent it and review notification controls. You can also open Settings > Notifications and look for the recently sending app or the app-notification list. If Chrome or Samsung Internet is sending a website alert, review that site's permission in the browser. A website alert is different from a separate app opening an advertising window.
An ad covers the home screen or interrupts another app
Check recent apps and recently installed or updated applications. A recent-apps card may identify the visible app, but a missing card is not proof that no app is responsible. If the ad opens a browser or store, the visible destination may not be the original sender. Record the trigger before changing settings or uninstalling anything.

Record when and where the ad appears
Note whether the ad appears while charging, immediately after unlocking, inside a browser or over the home screen. If it started after an update, also check recent app and lock-screen changes; timing alone does not prove the update caused it. Keep a record of the steps you try so you can reverse unrelated changes.

Review the notification or browser setting
For an ad notification, review the sender's notifications in Settings > Notifications or by long-pressing the notification. For browser pop-ups in Chrome, open its menu > Settings > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects and keep them blocked. In Samsung Internet, use its menu > Settings and find the pop-up blocking setting; the category name varies by version. Browser blocking does not stop every app window on the phone.

Check lock-screen and app-specific features
If the content belongs to a wallpaper or lock-screen service, open that feature's settings and review its content options. If unlocking instead opens a separate window, investigate the app behind that event. Review special access such as “Appear on top” only after identifying a candidate. Legitimate apps can use that access, and its absence does not rule out other ways to show ads.

Use safe mode to narrow downloaded-app problems
Follow Samsung's instructions for safe mode on your model. Google notes that safe mode can remove some home-screen widgets, so record your layout first. If the same symptom disappears there, focus your next checks on downloaded apps. Safe mode does not name a culprit. Review and remove candidates one at a time, testing after each change and keeping track of anything to reinstall.

Inspect an unexplained window with PopTrace

If the ad keeps returning
Closing an ad or clearing a recent-apps card may leave its source unchanged. Repeat the original trigger after each adjustment. If ads continue, record your Galaxy model, One UI or Android version, trigger and checks already tried, then contact Samsung support. Do not start by disabling unfamiliar system packages or following a cleaner download advertised by the pop-up.
